This type of instrument is usually used in guitar ensembles. Aside from group uses, this instrument is suitable for solo playing. It is loud, easy to play, a lot of fun and is also easy to travel with.
Since this guitar is tuned an octave above the standard guitar, it is possible to play directly from standard guitar music without any transposition. Since it is tuned an octave above the standard guitar, its sound cuts through a group of standard guitars. This is because humans hear better in the range of frequencies that the a 40cm scale produces in contrast to the range produced by the standard guitar with a 65cm scale. Human hearing is best between 1000 and 4000 Hertz (Hertz = cycles per second) . The highest "A" (the 17th fret) of a standard guitar has its fundamental frequency at 880 Hertz, the highest A of an octave guitar (its 17th fret) is 1760 hertz (the fundamental note's frequency).
